The Daily Inter Lake Monday, August 26, 1968 page 8 E. M. SHIRTS DIES; RITES PENDING Edgar M. Shirts, 87, who had resided at 31 LaSalle Road, died in Kalispell Sunday morning. Mr. Shirts was born Dec. 14, 1880, at Emerson, Iowa. As a small boy, he moved to Wayne, Neb., where he had received his education. On Dec. 7, 1903, he was married to Cora Washburn at Winside, Neb. The couple then moved to North Dakota where they homesteaded at Mercer until 1907 when they returned to southern Nebraska. Mr. Shirts had been in the hardware and grocery business in Nebraska having owned and operated the Sunshine Grocery. In 1934, he moved to Hamilton where he was employed by A. P. Nickel, the Valley Mercantile and the Coast-to-Coast Store there. In 1954, he retired and moved to Kalispell where he had resided since. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Blanche Tucker and Hattie Shirts. He is now survived by his widow, Cora, at the family home; one son, Lowell Shirts of Kalispell; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Margery) Thurston of San Leandro, Calif.; one brother, Ralph Shirts of Kalispell; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral arrangements for Mr. Shirts will be announced by the Johnson Funeral Home.
