Bertie Lee Nettleton Burnett, a long-time resident of the Fort Worth area, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016 at her home. Bertie was born in 1922 in Roby and grew up helping her mother and father with their homestead. She worked helping her father with ranching and farming cotton. Bertie was a riveter during World War II. She also worked in a cigarette factory in Raleigh, N.C. while her husband, Vick, was in the U.S. Army. After she settled in Fort Worth, she worked at Sears and Montgomery Wards until her retirement. Bertie loved to cook and host family gatherings. She loved good food and socializing, enjoyed playing dominos with family, and had a wonderful smile and laugh that could light up a room. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved spending time with Nanny! She was absolutely the wittiest person anyone ever knew. She always had a quick saying that always raised a laugh. She was a long-time member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. Bertie was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Coleman Vick Burnett; brother, James Nettleton; and sisters, Ruth Reep and Marie Burnett. Survivors: Her son, Bill Burnett and wife, Barbara; daughter, Wanda Ausburn and husband, Scotty; nephew-son, Doug Burnett and wife, Pauline; grandchildren; Kimberly Neal and husband, Tom, April Hicks and husband, Richard, Angela Bibby and husband, Jay, Stacy Summerhill and husband, Johnny; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Grayson Ponsonby, Skylar, Garen, and Coleman Hicks, Gavin Bibby, Austin, Zach, and Sarah Summerhill, who all brought great joy to her later years; also many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
