Bio

James Nettleton, 86, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014, at Snyder Oaks Care Center. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at Crossroads Baptist Church with burial in Hobbs Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made to weathersbeerayfh.com. James was born March 2, 1927, to Ida (Roland) and James Bennett "J. B." Nettleton, in Fisher County. He graduated from Hobbs High School I 1945 and served in the Navy during WWII. James married Marguerite Elizabeth Willingham at Sylvester on November 16, 1945. He was a stock farmer who raised cotton and cattle in Fisher County, where he was a lifelong resident. James was a workaholic who loved horses and enjoyed cleaning the grounds of the Hobbs Baptist Church and Hobbs Cemetery. He was a Baptist and served many years as a board member of the Hobbs School and Big Country Electric. James is preceded in death by his parents, daughter (Sherry Hess), two sisters, and a brother. James is survived by his wife, Marguerite Nettleton; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Sandy Nettleton of Hobbs; son-in-law, Bruce Hess of Slater, Missouri; five grandchildren, Jennifer Williams, Christi Michau and husband Denver, Terrell Hess and wife Kayla, Laura Jackson, and J.P. Martinez and wife Crystal; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Bertie Burnett of Fort Worth; and numerous nieces and nephews. The Nettleton family would like to offer a special thank you to Nell Compton, James and Marguerite's caretaker for the past two years.
