Rev. James Sidney Boogerd 21 October 1923 --- 20 May 1998 James Sidney Boogerd, 74, Sheldon, died Wednesday, May 20, at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon. Services were Saturday, May 23, at First Reformed Church in Sheldon with the Rev. David Boogerd, Rev. Gary Roozeboom and Rev. Gordon Bloemendaal officiating. Burial was at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, under the direction of Sheldon Funeral Service. James Boogerd, son of Sidney H. & Josie (Kuipers) Boogerd, was born Oct. 21, 1923 in Rock Valley. He lived his youth in rural Hull for seven years and then moved with his family to Hull. He attended Perkins Christian School, Hull Public, Northwestern Junior College, Central College and Western Theological Seminary. He entered the military service in 1943 and was honorable discharged in 1946. He married Elaine A. Dykstra of Sioux Center on June 6, 1950, in Sioux Center. They lived in Holland, MI, until they moved to Monroe, SD, where he was ordained to the gospel ministry of the Reformed Church in America on June 16, 1952. They lived and served churches in Monroe, SD; Matlock, Corsica, SD, Sioux Falls, SD, Lakewood, CA and Sibley. He served as a minister of calling in 1992 at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. They moved to Sheldon in 1993. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Northwestern College in Orange City; New Brunswick Theological Seminary; and as Stated Clerk of Dakota Classis, California Classis and East Sioux Classis. He was a member of Prairie Queen Kiwanis in Sheldon. Survivors include his wife, Elaine of Sheldon; a son, the Rev. David & Carolyn Boogerd of Chesterfield, MO; two daughters, Kathryn Boogerd of Minneapolis, MN; Kristin & Ceaser Tejeda of Haverhill, MA; a sister, Gertrude Baily of Dansville, MI; a brother-in-law, Virgil & Dorothy Dykstra of Des Moines, and a sister-in-law, Dolores & Loran Keller of Woodbury, MN.
