CARTWRIGHT (Staff)-The first two drowning deaths were recorded for 1962 at Lake Texoma following a fishing accident which claimed the lives of Ernest A. Raby, 45 of Woodville, and a companion, Millard Taylor Meeks, 57, of Marietta. The body of Raby was found Friday, about 15 hours after Meeks was found drowned and entangled in a fishing net late Thursday. Authorities reported the two men were running a fishing net when it became entangled in a 15-horsepower motor capsizing the boat near the Willafa Woods Resort north of Denison Dam. Meeks body was discovered about eight hours after tbe accident by two fishermen. A search then began for Raby, since the two men had been last seen together. His body was found Friday near the scene of the accident. Services were Saturday for Meeks at the First Methodist Church in Marietta. He was born Aug. 26, 1904, at Coalgate and lived most of his life in Love County. An oil field worker, Meeks also did commercial fishing. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mattie Meeks; two daughters, Mrs. Louise Orr, Sulphur, and Mrs. Sue Hyde, Dallas; two sons, David of Dallas, and Millard of the home; one sister, Mrs. May Willis, Lackley, two brothers, L. D. Meeks, Oklahoma City, and W. Meeks, Sulphur; his mother, Mrs. Annie Meeks, Marietta, and four grandchildren. Burial was in the Lebanon Cemetery under the direction of Goodrich Funeral Home, Marietta. Services for Raby are to be at the Holiness Church of Powell at 2 p.m. Monday. Burial will be at the Powell Cemetery. Born at Hugo, Jan. 14, 1917, Raby came to this area from Marshall County about 20 years ago but had lived at Woodville near Madill for nearly a year. He was a Baptist. Survivors are his wife, Irene, of the home; one son, Jimmie, U.S. Air Force, Phillippine Islands; two daughters, Betty and Sherry, also of the home; his mother, Mrs. Lillie Raby, Fort Worth; six sisters, Mrs. Paul Howell, also of Fort Worth; Mrs. R. C. Brooks, Azle, Mrs. Cylde Ridenour, Wichita Falls; Mrs. C. A. Tyler Madera, Mrs. Tressie Hunt, San Bernardino, and Mrs. Richard Berry, Windthorst, Tex. The Rev. H. L. Teague of Ardmore is to officiate. Assisting will be the Rev. Clifford Pelton. Bearers include Billy J. Rhoades, Jerry Bridgeman, Clyde Orr, Billy J. Rushing, Billy Jack Hewitt and Nolan Rhoades. Harveys has charge.
