Early Life: Joan was born November 21, 1924, in Lehi, Utah, to Albert J. and Zaley Mae Southwick Spratley. Life's Work/Service/Interests: She married JR Child on June 10, 1947, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Joan loved music and the arts. She was co-director for two roadshows selected for the All Church June Conference. She directed one and three act plays for ward and stake. She was president of Alpha Theta Phi at Brigham Young University her sophomore year. She served as ward Relief Society president and six years as stake Relief Society president in the Ensign Stake. At the same time, she cared for her elderly mother for eight years. She was an incredible support to her husband in all his church callings including his mission call as president of the British South Mission for three years. Also, his call as assistant Director of the BYU Center in Jerusalem where she directed the student choir. She served on the stake Primary and Young Women board. She served her entire adult life as a faithful visiting teacher. Her life was very full because of her continuance of service to others. Joan Spratley Child, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away August 30, 1996, of injuries sustained from an accident. Survived By: Her husband; two daughters, Kay Flink and Jan Evans (Bill); Ed Flink; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Preceded In Death By: Her parents, one brother and one sister.
