Services for Merritt James Stinson, 68, of Flint, will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Lanes Chapel United Methodist Church in Tyler with Rev. Jeff Gage officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mr. Stinson passed away Monday, September 19, 2016, in Tyler. He was born July 27, 1948, in Omaha, Nebraska, to William J. and Bessie Louise Hunter Stinson. He graduated from Westside High School. Merritt was the supply officer with Billy Moore correctional facility. Merritt was preceded in death by his wife, Cindy Stinson, and his parents. He is survived by his loving family including his daughters, Alyssa and Lila; son, Jess Stinson and wife Mandie; sister, Irene Zimmerman and Pam Gardner and husband Mike; grandchildren, Trinitie and Tony Stinson and several nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearer will be Tony Stinson. Visitation is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler. If desired, memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors Project, 4301 Fillbrook Lane, Tyler, or Tangiers Shriners Center, 2823 S. 84th Street, Omaha, NE 68124, Attn: Tangier Transportation.
