Jerome "Slick" Knebel, 92, of Hillje, passed away Sept, 16, 2016. He was born December 16, 1923 in Wharton County to the late Anton and Mary Knebel. He was a member of American Legion, VFW and DAV. At the age of 20 he enlisted in the army and was in World War II as Staff Sgt. He was awarded many metals including two bronze stars. After the war Jerome, better known as Slick, resided in Hillje where he purchased the family farm and continued the farm operations. Slick enjoyed spending time with family and friends at deer camp cooking, hunting and enjoying a cold one. Jerome was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Fred, Richard and Larry Knebel and sister-in-law, Gladys Knebel. Visitation will be from 3 - 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18 at Triska Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 19 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will immediately follow at 10 a.m. with Rev. Kirby Hlavaty.
