Bio

Kenneth Dane Evans of Ropesville passed away on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at the age of 85. He was born July 9, 1931, in Slide, Texas, to Euin Shelby and Areena (Wilson) Evans. He was a verteran of the United States Army. He worked for the Ropes Co-op Gin as a ginner for over 20 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Ropesville, Eagles Lodge and American Legion. Kenneth enjoyed the outdoors, including gardening, hunting, fishing and birdwatching; he also loved painting on glass, playing bingo and anything to do with music, including dancing and singing. Kenneth had a very outgoing personality and enjoyed making others laugh. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Becky Smith (Larry), Lisa Proffitt (Barton), all of Ropesville, and Cecily Rumbaugh (Terry) of Levelland and their mother, Billie Evans Conlee of Levelland; sister, Lavoun McGahey of Tyler; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several extended family members. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; four sisters; daughter, Vickie Brock and son, Alfred Evans. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. with family receiving friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, at the Venue on Broadway. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016, at Ropesville First Baptist Church with interment to follow in Ropesville Cemetery.
