Thanks to contributor #48796369; Marie L. Chidley, 83, of Greeley, Colo., formerly of Grand Island, died Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colo. Graveside services were held Friday at Fairmount Cemetery in Denver. Marie Louise Chidley was born August 26, 1920, at Luseland, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Henry and Anna (Schmale) Hohmann. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, who died on March 4, 1993. Survivors of the immediate family include a sister, Esther Zugbaum of West Chester, Ohio. Other survivors include a niece, Audrey Hongsermeier, and a nephew, Carl "Dick" Niedfelt, both of Grand Island, and nine other nephews and nieces in Alabama, California, Colorado, Illinois, Ohio, Texas and Virginia. She was the seventh of eight children. The family had homesteaded in Canada in 1909 and in November 1920 returned to Grand Island. In 1938 she graduated from Grand Island High School in Grand Island. After completing telegraphy school in 1943, she began her employment with Union Pacific Railroad, retiring in August 1980. On September 5, 1958, at Messiah Lutheran Church, Grand Island, she married Gordon D. Chidley of Denver, Colo. The couple resided in Hugo, Colo., where both worked for Union Pacific Railroad. In June 1972, they moved to Aurora, Colo., where both continued their work with the railroad.
