Grand Island Daily Independent Wednesday 5 Nov 1969 p.11:4/5 Mrs. Henry Hohmann Dies; Funeral Services Monday Mrs. Henry W. Hohmann, 615 N. Pine Street, died early Wednesday morning in a local nursing home. She had been a resident of Baumann Home since last August. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 Monday afternoon at Messiah Lutheran Church, with Pastor Grant Van Boening officiating. Interment will be in Grand Island Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 Sunday at the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Remembrances through the Memorial Wreath of Messiah Lutheran Church are preferred. She was born Nov. 2, 1883, in Merrick County to Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schmale. She received her schooling and grew to womanhood in the community until 1909, when they went to Saskatchewan, Canada. They farmed there until 1921 when they returned here. They farmed east of Grand Island until 1926, then moved to town. Mr. Hohmann died July 1, 1956. Mrs. Hohmann had maintained the family home until last August when she entered Bauman Home. Mrs. Hohmann was a member of the congregation at Messiah Lutehran Church. She was affiliated with the Senior Ladies Aid of her church and was a member of Truth Lodge No. 132 of the Rebeccas. She is survived by two sons, Henry R. Hohmann, Grand Island, and Walter Hohmann, Yuba City, Calif.; five daughters, Mrs. Dorothy M. Day of Grand Island, Mrs. Esther Zugbaum of Mishawaka, Ind., Mrs. Margaret Johnson of Culver City, Calif., Mrs. Alice O'Neal of Porterville, Calif., and Mrs. Marie Chidley, Hugo, Colo.; three brothers, Henry Schmale of Sidney, Charles Schmale of Ravenna, and Oscar Schmale of Medicine Bow, Wyo.; two sisters, Mrs. Herman Diekhoff of Hastings, and Mrs. Walter Meisner of Sidney; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Alfred Becker; four brothers, Emil, Otto, Herman, and Fred Schmale;and two sisters Mrs. Augusta Nietfeldt and an infant.
