Bio

Joseph (Joe) Cephas Stout, is the son of James Selen Stout, and grandson of Captain Henry Stout, and he lived his entire life in Hopkins County Texas. He married Mary (Brookshire)1854-1917, daughter of Jesse M. Brookshire 1827-1898 and Martha (Ramsey)1821-1907. My grandfather told me his father's full name was Joseph Cephas Stout, but he was known by friends and family as Joe. Federal census records show Joseph 1860, J. C. 1880, Joe C. 1900, and Joseph C 1910. In his biography, published in "Early History of Hopkins County", he refers to himself as J. C. Stout. His son, Brit, wrote his name as Joseph C. Stout when he registered for WW I (see attached photo). Joe C. Stout and Mary (Brookshire) Stout were the parents of Emma Stout born 12 Dec 1876 Dollie Stout born 28 Aug 1878 married James W.
