Samuel Laird Bonner, youngest child of Jim Billie Bonner and Nannie Belle York, was born at Bonnerville, Texas on January 9, 1930, his sister Laura Belle's eleventh birthday. His name is that of his father's great-great-grandfather. His cousins called him Sammy or "Little Sam." He was only eight years old when his father died. He attended Fairfield Schools and married Rebecca Opaline Long, daughter of Clinton Raymond Long and Nellie Mae Hall on May 20, 1950. Sam and Albert worked together at the Sinclair station before Sam went into the U S Army where he served as a private during World War II. When he came out, he went to work for Harry Manahan at the Humble station across highway 84. Then Sam moved to Mexia. After a career in the insurance business in Mexia, Texas, Sam entered law enforcement serving as a Justice of the Peace and Constable in Limestone County and as a City Judge in Mexia. Opaline joined him in this field. They were parents of two sons, David Laird and John Leslie. Sam died on September 23, 1998 in Austin, Texas.
