Arlene Weidner, 85, formerly of Humphrey, died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016, in Norfolk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey with Father Patrick A. McLaughlin officiating and burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday with a 4 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. Scripture service and 9-10 a.m. Saturday, all at the church. Arlene was born April 25, 1931, at Clarks, the daughter of Albin and Mary (Martin) Cerny, and graduated from Madison High School. On Feb. 6, 1951, Arlene and Luke P. Weidner were united in marriage at St. Leonard's Catholic Church in Madison. She lived in Madison, Columbus and Humphrey and served as city clerk and treasurer 17 years for the City of Humphrey. She was a member of the Christian Mothers Society, involved with CCD classes and Lady Bug Extension Club and was known for baking and decorating cakes. Surviving are her daughter, Jeanne Esparza and Bob Arkfeld of Norfolk; sons, Lonnie and Theresa Weidner of Humphrey and Scott and Gina Weidner of Creston; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Geri (Merle) Brandl, Ed (Sherri) Cerny, Joyce (Dan) Meysenburg and Bill (Ann) Cerny. Preceding in death were her parents; husband, Luke on April 27, 2007; son-in-law, Santiago Esparza; brother, Don Cerny; and brother-in-law, Marlan Peters. The Columbus Telegram, Aug. 18, 2016
