GRAND MEADOW -- The funeral Mass for John S. Wytaske will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Finbarr Catholic Church in Grand Meadow, with the Rev. Steve Peterson officiating. Burial will be at later date in St. Finbarr Catholic Cemetery. Mr. Wytaske, 80, of Grand Meadow, died Wednesday (Nov. 29, 2006) at his home. John Stanley Wytaske was born Feb. 8, 1926, in Orchard, Neb. He was a sergeant in the motor pool of the Army, enlisting on Feb. 9, 1948, and serving in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on July 5, 1952. On Dec. 5, 1953, he married Pearl Etta "Pegi" Garber at the courthouse in Astoria, Ore. They were married at the Catholic church in Eyota in October 1963. He began working as a farmhand and had many jobs throughout his life. He retired at age 62 and started working part time at A.E.S. in Grand Meadow. He was also a custodian at Grand Meadow School for more than five years. A member of St. Finbarr Catholic Church for 33 years, he enjoyed fishing, telling jokes and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Debra (Terry) Zillgitt of LeRoy, Joan (Kevin) Wurst of Hudson, Wis., and Carolyn (Dave) Gherbaz of Pine Island; two sons, Paul of Grand Meadow and James (Kay) of Rochester; 10 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and three sisters, Rose Kneeskern of Austin, Bernice (Bob) Green of Azalea, Ore., and Francis Ward of Santa Rosa, Calif. He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the church, and an hour before the service Monday at the church. Hindt Funeral Home of Grand Meadow is in charge of arrangements.
