William Edward Poteet, 98, of Temple, passed away Nov. 24, 2006, in a local nursing home. Services for Mr. Poteet will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, in the Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chris Mesa officiating. Interment will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple. William Edward was born in Holland, Texas, to the late William Allen and Martha Melissa Poteet. After graduating from Holland High School, William went on to Southwest Texas State where he earned a degree in teaching. During his college years, he met the young lady who would become his wife. In 1930, he and Itha Elizabeth Strader were married in San Marcos. After college, William came back to Bell County and Milam County to teach in the public school system for 16 years before joining the U.S. Army in June of 1943 until August of 1945. After leaving the service, William went to work for the VA hospital in Temple as an Educational Therapist for 23 years until his retirement. He was a member of Oak Park United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and served on the church boards. He was also a member of the Senior Citizen Organization. William was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years; six brothers; three sisters; and one son. Survivors include nephews, Fred Poteet, Jr., of Temple and Bentley C. Hooks, of Fort Worth; niece, Ann Elizabeth Radde, of Cleburne; nine great-grandchildren; two great-nieces; and several nieces and nephews. Waco Tribune-Herald: 11/28/2006
