CENTRAL CITY — Kenneth Weller, 87, of Central City, formerly of Palmer, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2016, at the Central City Care Center. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Archer Zion United Methodist Church, with Pastor Laurie Beach and Rev. Mark Hartley officiating. Burial of the ashes will be at the Archer Evangelical Community Cemetery. Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of the arrangements. Kenneth Lyle Weller was born April 26, 1929, on the family farm southeast of Palmer to Herman and Elsie (Bruns) Weller. Ken attended District 47 School through the eighth grade, at which time he decided to stay home and work on the family farm. He would farm and live in the Archer/Palmer area the remainder of his life. While at a roller skating party he met Onilee Garrett, which eventually led to their marriage on May 7, 1950, at Fairview Methodist Church near Central City. Ken and Onilee were married for 47 years, until her death on July 5, 1997. In 2000, while on a bus tour to Pennsylvania, he met Ellen Martin, and those two would eventually marry on Aug. 3, 2001, at Archer Zion United Methodist Church. Ken was a member of Archer Zion United Methodist Church, and was extremely active, serving as Sunday school teacher, superintendent and lay leader, and attended several United Methodist Church Conferences. He served on the Archer Credit Union Board for more than 25 years, as well as forming the G&W Irrigation Co. with Larry Goerl. Ken loved farming and travelling. Some of his travels led him to Florida, Texas, Arizona and Alaska. He especially enjoyed his Alaskan cruise. His greatest love was for his family, though. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ellen of West Point; his children and their spouses, Cindy Hemmann of Grand Island, Ron and Lynnette Weller of Palmer, Doug and Deb Weller of Omaha and Tom and Kaylene Weller of Palmer; his grandchildren, Heather, Erica, Brea, Angela, Alyssa, Boyd, Sarah, and Brodi; 14 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Pat Weller of Palmer; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Onilee Weller; two grandsons, Kurt Hemmann and Blaine Weller; and a brother, Merle Weller.
