Dorothy Behnken, 93, of David City, Nebraska, (formerly of Columbus, Nebraska) died Saturday, July 30, 2016, at David Place in David City. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 6 at 11:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Michael Klatt and Rev. David Palomaki officiating. Private interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in York, Nebraska. The family will begin greeting friends on Saturday beginning at 10:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church. There will be a family prayer service on Saturday at 10:45 AM at the church. Memorials are suggested to Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus, Redeemer Lutheran Church in David City, or family choice. Dorothy Matousek Behnken was born January 31, 1923, in rural Butler County, Nebraska, to John and Agnes (Mazanec) Matousek. She attended District 67 Country Grade School and graduated in 1939 from Rising City High School. Dorothy was united in marriage to Wayne Behnken on October 10, 1945, in St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Gresham, Nebraska. The couple lived in York and Neligh, Nebraska, before retiring to Columbus in 1983. Dorothy was employed in various accounting offices as a bookkeeper. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus. Dorothy is survived by: Son - Scott Behnken of Lincoln, NE Brother - Marcel (Mardell) Matousek of Columbus, NE Granddaughter - Jane (Chris) Kupersmith of Bloomington, IN Grandson - Nicholas Behnken of Washington, DC Great-Grandson - Asa Kupersmith of Bloomington, IN Dorothy was preceded in death by: Parents - John and Agnes Matousek Husband - Wayne Behnken Sister - Wilma (Adolph) Rech Sister - Evelyn (Roger) Peterson Nephew - Terry Rech
