George Kostohryz, 82 years old, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, Jan. 24, 2014, after a long illness, he was born in West, Texas on April 1, 1931. George was a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and the SMU Dedman School of Law. He was a former editor of The West News, and retired as division vice president of contracts for General Dynamics, Fort Worth Division. He was preceded in death by his parents, John J Kostohryz, and Adelle Kostohryz; granddaughter, Kristin Kellow; brother, Robert Kostohryz; sisters, Laura Jean Matkin and Nell Ruth Jung; son-in-law, Jimmy Randolph. Survivors: his wife of 63 years, Joyce Smaistrla Kostohryz; his children, Beverly Kellow, George Kostohryz Jr., M.D., and wife, Brenda, David Kostohryz, D.D.S., and wife, Dainty, Brenda Witherspoon and husband, Brett, Carol Turpin and husband, Doug, and Jean Randolph-Giles and husband, Matt; grandchildren, Rob Kellow, George "Trey" Kostohryz III, Kelly Kostohryz and wife, Morgan, Holt Kostohryz, Keely Kostohryz, Jennifer Kostohryz Rosell and husband, Andrew, David Kostohryz Jr., D.D.S., M.D., and wife, Jennifer, John Kostohryz and wife, Kendall, Bryan Witherspoon, Ben Witherspoon and wife, Lauren, Sarah Turpin Huffman and husband, Shane, Holly Turpin, Douglas Turpin, Taylor Turpin, Carolyn Joyce Randolph Cantu and husband, Val, Martha Randolph Canon and husband, Cody, Charlotte Randolph, Helen Randolph Howard and husband, Johnse, Grace Randolph and Joseph Williams; great-grandchildren, Jimmy and Charlie Rosell, Avery and Thomas Kostohryz and Eleanor and Cecelia Canon; brother, Vernon Kostohryz; and nieces and nephews and their families. His family wishes express their appreciation to Dr. Marshall Morrison for the kind and compassionate care shown George throughout his long illness. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, his family suggests contributions to the Helen Smaistrla Memorial Fund, Catholic Daughters of America, Court 829, in care of Dianne Friend, 313 N. Marable St., West, Texas 76691. The fund was established by George to honor his late mother-in-law, aiding those in need in his hometown of West. Service: A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 3312 Dryden Road. Recitation of the Holy Rosary and family reflections will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Great Room at Robertson Mueller Harper, with visitation until 7 p.m.
