Bio

Laura Jean Kostohryz Matkin was born on April 12, 1929 in Temple, TX. She passed away on Oct 16,2013 at the age of 84. Laura grew up in West, TX where she graduated from West High School, then went on to attend McLennan County College and the University of North TX. Laura is survived by the love of her life, Robert Matkin, her husband of 62 years; daughters Linda Taylor (Johnny), Robyn Baker (Ricky); grandchildren Cameron Taylor (Samantha), Caitlin, Lucas, and Davis Baker; and great-grandson Brayden Matkin Taylor. Laura was a Charter Member of Woodland Baptist Church. She even named Woodland Baptist, a church she dearly loved. One of Laura's hobbies was quilt making. She was a volunteer docent at the Institute of Texan Cultures for over 29 years. Every Thursday you could find her working at the quilting frame at the Institute sharing her love of quilting with the visitors there. She created over 100 hand stitched quilts in her lifetime, and many of them were blue ribbon award winners. Laura's quilts will provide beautiful memories which her family members will treasure for years to come. SERVICES Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 21, at 10:00am at Woodland Baptist Church, 15315 Huebner Rd., San Antonio, TX 78248. Interment will follow at Mission Burial Park North.
