Bio

A private family graveside service for Alvin C. (Ace) Machan, 87, of Caldwell, was held Saturday, July 23, 2016. Burial followed at the New Tabor Cemetery. Mr. Machan died on Thursday, July 21, 2016. He was born on December 19, 1928 to John Jerry Machan and Lydia Ann Hovorak Machan. At an early age, Alvin accepted Jesus Christ as his saviour and Lord. Ace attended several country schools and Caldwell High School where he dropped out early. He worked at different jobs. He worked for the food service department at Texas A&M University. Later Ace drove dump trucks before being employed by the Texas Highway Department. While working there, what made his day (or night) was getting up at 2 a.m. during an ice storm to help put sand on bridges and steep hills. He also helped his brother on the family ranch. Ace enjoyed having his neighbor and friend, Hubert Loehr, come and play dominoes several nights a week. Ace liked bird watching, especially woodpeckers. He also enjoyed watching the many varied butterflies in the flower garden. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Stacy Paul Machan, Johnnie and Sophie Matcek Machan, and Edward H. Machan, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Lillie and Steve Prazak and Lydia and Don Campbell, his nephews, Glenn Machan, Jack Roscher and Duane Rowell. He is survived by two brothers, twp nephews, two nieces, and several great-nephews and great-nieces. from obituary at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home
