Bio

Leonita Annie Malik Broz, 88, of Gonzales, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016. She was born Aug. 6, 1927 in Lavaca County, the daughter of Isidor and Annie Cerny Malik Sr. She married Emil Adolph Broz, and he passed away on March 15, 1983. Leonita worked for many years as a meat wrapper at local grocery stores in Gonzales and later various saddle shops in Yoakum before her retirement. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and golf. She loved polka music, the beach, visiting Rockport, tending her flowers and bird watching. Most of all she loved and treasured her family. She raised children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was always there to take care of everyone and was the glue that held the family together. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church. She is survived by a daughter, of Gonzales a son, of Rockport, a sister, of Houston, 2 brothers, 5 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Zoii, Emma, J.J., Clayton and Garrett. She was preceded in death by her husband Emil Adolph Broz Sr.; son, Dennis George Broz; daughter, Barbara Jean Miller; great-granddaughter, Sydney Katherine Vega; sister, Margaret Malik and brothers, Edward, B.J., Isidor, Johnnie, and Louis Malik. A mass of the ressurection Monday, July 18 at St. James Catholic Church. Interment at the St. James Catholic Cemetery. from obituary published in The Gonzales Inquirer Census records reveal that Leonita's parents were Czech immigrants who each came to the USA with their respective families in 1906. Leonita grew up on a farm in Lavaca County, Texas.
