Ernest Richard Kokel, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went home to his Lord and to his wife Luella on Sunday, the 23rd of November, 2014. He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Linda and Bruce Boatright; his son and his wife, Ricky and Becky Kokel; his granddaughter and her husband, Erin and Jimmy Stanley; his granddaughter and her husband, Julie and Wendal Perry; his grandson and his wife, Michael and Rachel Kokel; his granddaughter and her husband, Christie and Clayton Rodriguez; and his great-grandsons, Luke and Jason Stanley, and Cameron Perry. Ernest was a family man, a farmer, a milkman, a devout Lutheran. He was born in Walburg, Texas on June 28, 1916-one of 11 children. On February 8th, 1940, he married the love of his life, Luella. For over 70 years they were a vibrant example of a loving, strong, and devoted marriage. Ernest, known by friends and family as "Ernie," "Dad," and "Papa" ("paw-paw"), knew no strangers. He befriended everyone with his kindness, curiosity, sense of humor, and a cup of coffee. He taught himself to play the harmonica, with which he would periodically serenade his family, and, later, would serenade his friends and the staff at his nursing home. He enjoyed growing vegetables in the garden, harvesting pecans from his trees, and sitting on the front porch swing with his wife. Ernest was an honorable and joyful man who loved and lived completely. It is a privilege to have known and been loved by this gentle soul.
