R. L. “Hunk” Simpson Services at Ord Funeral services were Friday for Raymond Louis “Hunk” Simpson who died April 14, 1976 at the Valley County Hospital following a lengthy illness. Interment was in the Ord City Cemetery with Military rites by the Ord American Legion and VFW. Raymond 'Hunk' Simpson was born Dec 14, 1920 at Gracie, NE, the son of Raymond P. and Freda Phillips Simpson. His early life was spent on a ranch with his parents in the Burwell area. He attended rural schools in Loup County. Hunk entered the service during World War II, June 9, 1942 and served in the European War Theater. On June 12, 1943, he married Carol Hall at Camp Carson, CO. After his release from the Army, Dec. 3, 1945, they made their home in Burwell for several years before moving to Kearney where they lived for 14 years. In April 1962 they moved to Ord where Hunk was owner and operator of Hunk's Plumbing and Heating Company. He was a former member of the Kearney Volunteer Fire Dept., an active member of the Ord American Legion and VFW, and BPOE Elks Lodge #2371 of Ord, as well as an active member of the Ord Coyote Hunters Association. Survivors include his wife, Carol; one son, Rick; one daughter, Mrs. Julie Knapp; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Simpson all of Ord; one sister, Mrs. Viola Shipman of Salem, OR.
