Col. Rudolph John Stanislav, USAF (ret.), age 68 of DeSoto, formerly of West, passed away Monday, June 5, 2000 in DeSoto. Funeral Mass was held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 9, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Duncanville. Interment followed at Laurel Land Cemetery in Dallas. A prayer vigil was held 7 p.m. Thursday at Jaynes Memorial Chapel in Duncanville. Rudy was born February 10, 1932, the son of Rudolph A. and Agnes Cernosek Stanislav of West. After graduating from Texas A&M University, Rudy had a distinguished career in the U.S. Air Force that spanned 30 years. During this time, he served in the U.S., Italy, France, Germany, Okinawa, Vietnam and Thailand. He was a Master Navigator who logged over 4,700 flying hours with nearly 1,000 of those in combat situations. Among his many medals were the Legion of Merit, the Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air medal. Rudy belonged to many organizations: Knights of Columbus, VFW, Texans of Czech Ancestry, Czech Heritage Society of Texas McLennan/Hill County, International Czech Heritage Society, Dallas/Brno Sister Cities, Dallas Genealogical Society and Central Texas Genealogical Society. He loved genealogy and was working toward publishing his family history. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mavis, in 1989. He is survived by his wife Jo Ann Stanislav of DeSoto; one daughter, Lisa Dailey and her husband Jim of Round Rock; one son, Christopher and his wife Linda of Hampton, Virginia; three grandchildren, Matthew, Nathan and Kaitlin Dailey of Round Rock; two stepsons, John Rapkoch and his wife Heather of Dallas, one uncle, Ben Cernosek and his wife Edith of West; two brothers, Leonard and his wife Anita of Parker and Norbert and his wife Barbara of Weatherford; two sisters, Joanie and her husband John of Weatherford and Mary Jane and her husband Steve of Dallas and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
