AURORA — Ron Spence, age 63, of Aurora passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island. Celebration of Life will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Aurora. The Rev. Mary Scott will officiate. Inurnment will be at Aurora Cemetery. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Ronald Dean Spence, the son of William “Tom” and Alice (Hrebec) Spence, was born in Grand Island on April 8, 1953, and passed away in Grand Island, Neb., on July 7, 2016, at the age of 63. Ron grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1971. He went on to complete his barber training in Lincoln. Over his career, he began barbering in Grand Island until 1983 when he set up shop in Aurora on the town square. On Aug. 23, 2008, Ron married Peg Copeland. They made their home in Aurora. Ron loved music. He was a talented musician and song writer that played with several local bands over the years. He also enjoyed golf, fishing and family get-togethers. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brandon Spence; and brother, Jim Spence. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Peg of Aurora; three sons, Travis (Tara) Spence of Kearney, Tyler (Lindy) Spence and grandson Casen Spence of Lincoln and Chris (Sarah) Spence and grandsons, Caleb and Coen Spence, of Lincoln; two stepchildren, Jeffrey Krotz of Lincoln and Erin L. Krotz of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Sharon (Jerry) Thiel of Grand Island; closest cousin, Don Hulinsky of Aurora; aunt and uncle, Marie and Ike Farritor of Alliance; in-laws, Hank and Mary Jane Carpenter of Tecumseh and many cousins, family members and friends.
