FREMONT - James T. "Jim" Spence, 64, of Fremont died Monday, Nov. 12, 2012 at his home. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Fremont. The Rev. Colleen O'Neill will officiate. Military services will be conducted by members of the Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post 854 and American Legion Post 20 at the church, following the memorial service. Burial will be at a later date at the Grand Island Memorial Cemetery in Grand Island. Moser Memorial Chapel of Fremont is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Spence was born June 16, 1948, in Ashland, Ore., to William and Alice (Hrebec) Spence. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Pamela; a son, Justin Spence and fiance, Camalee Benevidez, of Wood River; three daughters and a son-in-law, Katherine Spence and fiance, Nick Stamp, of Wood River, Moriah and David Sieling of Safford, Ariz., and Rhyannon Ruiz of Tucson, Ariz; a stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Michael and Lisa Scott of Gurnee, Ill.; a brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Peg Spence of Aurora; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Jerry Thiel of Grand Island; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and two special companions, his dogs, Molly and Buffy. He moved to Nebraska in 1950 and was a 1966 graduate of Grand Island High School in Grand Island. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from June 1, 1966 to June 11, 1969. He was previously employed at Chief Industries in Grand Island. He moved to Fremont in 2000 and worked at MCI in Omaha for five years until retiring in 2005. Jim met Pamela Scott in July of 1999 and they were married on Dec. 27, 2005, in Fremont. He was the historian for the USS Long Beach Association. He was preceded in death by his parents.
