Helen M as she was known later in life was born Katie Bell Haller, Catharina on her baptismal sacramental listing at St Louis Catholic Church. She first married Edwin Florian Bendele 1914 but they divorced by October 1918. Second she married Elbert M Toombs December 1920, but it is thought that this marriage did not last long. By the 1950 US Federal Census she is listed as being married to Harvey Timothy Collins and is known as Helen M Haller Collins.
