Thanks to contributor #47447951; Jesse J. Worm, 56, of Grand Island died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center due to complications following a brief struggle with cancer. Mr. Worm was born June 21, 1947, at Ord to Arlie and Maxine (Zulkoski) Worm. Mr. Worm grew up in Ord and graduated from North Loup-Scotia in 1966. He married Daphne Whitfield in 1967. They lived in York, where he was a police officer. He enlisted in the United State Army and was proud of being a decorated Vietnam veteran. He received various medals, including two purple hearts. He later worked in law enforcement in Greeley and Howard counties. Mr. Worm married Peggy Perkins on April 3, 1976. At the time of his death, he was employed by Case New Holland. In his youth, Mr. Worm participated in rodeos and Golden Gloves boxing. Survivors of his immediate family include his wife, Peggy of Grand Island; his mother and stepfather, Maxine and Don Simpson of Wood River; mother-in-law, Marcia Davis of Anaheim, Calif.; a daughter, Carolynn Perkins of Kearney; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rob Worm of Lincoln, and Sonny and Crisann Perkins of Grand Island; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Marlene Lucero of El Cajon, Calif., Sandra Worm of Lincoln, and Jerrlyn and Doug Shupe of Tucson, Ariz.; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Kevin and Robbie Simpson of Broken Bow, Okla., and Bill Simpson of Wood River. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law and their spouses, Vicki and Mark Tylkowski of Grand Island, and Dixie and Larry Boesen of Carefree, Ariz.; three brothers-in-law and their spouses, the Rev. R. Keith and Kathy Davis of Anaheim, Calif., Kelly and Bonnie Davis of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Michael and Connie Davis of Omaha; three grandchildren, Sean, 13, Lauren, 9, and Kyle, 4; 26 nieces and nephews; and 18 great-nieces and great-nephews. Jess loved being surrounded by family and especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren. Family members of all ages enjoyed being with him. Jess, a humorous and fun-loving man, enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool and cheering for Nebraska Cornhusker football. He was a skillful artist and enjoyed woodworking. Everyone who knew Jess knew him to be quick-witted, a great cook and an entertaining storyteller. He was a delightful grandpa and uncle to every child who knew him. He was also much respected and loved by a huge extended family and many, many friends both near and far. He was preceded in death by his father; an infant son, Scott Michael Worm; and his grandparents. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Rev. Keith Davis will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery with military honors provided by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
