Shelton Rites Set At Nolan Roscoe, Nov. 13 - Funeral for Asbury Mood Shelton, 96, was scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday in the Nolan (Divide) Methodist Church. The Rev. Wyatt Hanks of Muleshoe, former pastor, will officiate. He will be assisted by the Rev. Buren L. Higdon, pastor of the Nolan Baptist Church. Burial in Slater's Chapel Cemetery is to be under the direction of Wells-Snyder Funeral Home of Roscoe. Mr. Slater died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday. He had been a patient in Young Hospital here for more than 18 months. A native of Charlotte, N.C., Mr. Shelton had been a resident of Nolan County since 1907. He came to Texas with his parents, and the family first settled at Hughes Springs in Camp County. There he farmed and taught school. His education included a "subscription" school and several academies, among them the old Allen Academy. He also attended the old Sam Houston Normal at Huntsville and Southwestern University at Georgetown. His marriage to Lura Estelle Reed took place in 1891. In the spring of 1907, the couple moved to Nolan County, where Mr. Shelton bought a farm about three miles from old Dora on the Divide. Survivors include five sons, Dupree Shelton of Seattle, Col. C. Q. Shelton of Fort Bliss, Beauford M. Shelton of Midland, Calif., Luma Shelton of Wichita Falls and Hoyt W. Shelton of Nolan; a daughter, Jewel Shelton of Eldorado, Tex.; and four grandchildren.
