F. J. RICHARDSON BURIED--- Finis Written To Saga Of "Country Doctor" Who Saved Many Lives in Dora Community By Harry Holt Another chapter of the "unwritten" colorful history of pioneer Texas was closed with the passing of F. J. Richardson, a native of the Lone Star state and practicing physician for a half a century. Undecorated and with simple funeral rites, he was buried Wednesday afternoon at Slater's Chapel Cemetery near Dora, which had been home since 1900. Yet, had the lives saved during early-day epidemics been numerated, the digits would, no doubt, have been high. Few are the doctors who attended this country during days of its infancy in the horse and buggy time. Many have filled their last prescriptions. And in the pill bags of those remaining active physicians are untold stories of the trials and tribulations of a new-born country. Modern equipment, hospitals, specially-trained doctors and nurses long ago moved in to care for a fast-living nation. Yet, there was a place for the early-day physicians and most of them were content to remain with a people they knew from childhood and be known as the "country doctor". They lived in the country where the refreshing atmosphere is innocent of the smoke and dirt of the fast-living city. That's all they ever knew or wanted. In the waning years of Dr. Richardson's career, it was just that way. He was born June 11, 1866 near Waxahachie, and attended a medical school at the University of Louisville, Kentucky. His practice began in 1888, the same year he was married to Lizzie Lowry. Survivors are his wife; a sister, Miss Lillie Richardson of Nolan; a daughter, Mrs. Ed Elliott of Dora; three sons, J. R. Richardson of Sweetwater, Bodine Richardson and R. L. Richardson of Seminole; and six grandchildren.
