NOLAN COUNTY RANCHER DIES Sweetwater, Dec. 3 - Walter P. Hammond, 66, farmer and rancher at the Nolan community for 36 years, died at 1:30 a.m. Monday in a Fort Worth hospital. He had been ill for several months. Mr. Hammond was born Jan. 4, 1885 in Lampasas and moved to Nolan County in 1915. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Henry Blair of Fort Worth; six sons, Willis Hammond of Nolan, Lyndon Hammond of Carswell Air Force Base, Fort Worth, Farris Hammond of Big Spring, Chester Hammond of Carswell Air Force Base, Hershel Hammond of Fort Worth, and Buren of Fort Smith, Ark.; three sisters, Mrs. H. E. Jones of Ballinger, Mrs. Glenn Ivy of Lampasas, and Mrs. Jess Dennis of Lampasas; two brothers, George Hammond of Lampasas, and Joe Hammond of Quanah; nine grandchildren. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Nolan with the Rev. Willie Howell of Abilene officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. Hugh McGee, pastor. Burial will be in Slater's Chapel Cemetery under direction of Patterson Funeral Home. Pallbearers are J. T. Brown, Hershel Barton, Clyde McGee, Munroe Ussery, J. B. McCoy and Tom McCoy.
