Mrs. Payne Dies at 53 in S'water Sweetwater - Mrs. Elmer Y. Payne, 53, Sweetwater resident since 1930 and area leader in Girl Scout work for many years, died of illness at Simmons Memorial Hospital at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday. Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Methodist Church with the Rev. J. L. Cartrite, pastor of Lamar Street Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery under direction of Patterson Funeral Home. Mrs. Payne was formerly Willie Faye Cantwell. She was born March 19, 1911 in Crystal Falls. She and Mr. Payne were married in Sweetwater in 1930. Survivors are her husband; her daughter, Mrs. M. C. Vella of Abilene; six sisters, Mrs. Frank Donley of Martinez, Calif., Mrs. M. L. Berry and Mrs. Sam Soltz, both of San Bernardino, Calif., Mrs. Virgil Sedgwick of San Antonio, Mrs. G. M. McCollum of Odessa and Mrs. Oran Gilbert of Kahuliu Moni, Hawaii; a brother, John Cantwell of Sacremento, Calif.; and her step-mother, Mrs. C. G. Cantwell of Odessa.
