Bio

Celebrating the life of Irvin Gehard Brod born May 8, 1921 in Wharton, Texas. He was the 5th of 8 children. He married Audrey Laverne Luce on December 17, 1938. He began a career as a brick truck driver at Houston Brick and Tile. He also ran a dragline digging clay for bricks. He was a welder at Dow Chemical. From 1944-1946 he served our country in the United States Navy during WWII. After the war, he worked at the brickyard again and then went to the Schweinle ranch in Rosharon where he performed numerous duties including running a bulldozer clearing land. He then moved to Iowa Colony in 1960, Irvin started an egg business delivering eggs from his hen house door to door in Lake Jackson and Pasadena. In 1976 he worked for Delbert Brod at Brod Farms in South Houston. Then he worked for Delbert Brod, Jr. at Happy Hen. He retired in 1984. He was a member of South Park Baptist Church. The most important events in his life were his marriage to Audrey and the birth of his children. His hobbies were playing the domino game of 42 with his friends, traveling, fishing and gardening. He enjoyed playing the accordion in his younger years. He listened to Christian hymns, polka music and country music. Irvin was preceded in death by his parents, Frank J. Brod and Otilda Litzler; his wife, Audrey Laverne Luce; brothers, Raymond J. Brod, Marcus J. Brod, Elmer J. Brod; and sisters, Isabel Bremser, Alice Schumaker, Evelyn Webb and Elverda Schweinle. He is survived by son, Joe Brod and wife, Elizabeth of Alvin; son, Jim Brod and wife, Carmen of El Paso; son, Jerry Brod of Manvel; daughter, Ruth Begnaud of Alvin; six grandchildren, Michael Brod of Lakewood, Colorado, Susan Gibson and husband, Tim of Alvin, Barry Begnaud of Alvin, Jeffrey Begnaud and wife, Lisa of Cypress, Daniel Brod of Austin and Jamie Brod of Dallas. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Monday, May 7, 2016 from 6 pm to 8 pm at South Park Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 109 am at South Park Baptist Church, 1718 S. Johnson St., Alvin, TX 77511. Burial to follow at South Park Cemetery.
