James "Jimmy" Murl Hughes, 83, died Oct. 30,2006, at Florida Baptist Retirement Center. He was born in Sulphur Springs, TX, and grew up in Farmersville, TX. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II. He was a hairstylist and owner of Powder Puff Beauty Shop in Vero Beach for many years. He served 17 years on the Volunteer Ambulance Squad. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Vero Beach. Survivors include his wife of almost 62 years, Doris of Vero Beach; daughter, Deanna Kay Hughes of Palatka; son, Stephen Hughes of Vero Beach; brothers, Dr. Bill Hughes of Lockhart, TX, and Weldon Hughes of McKinney, TX; sister, Patsy Hughes Brown of Greenville, TX; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, James Marvin Hughes. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer/Parkinson Association of Indian River County, 2501 27th Ave., Vero Beach, FL 32960. SERVICES: Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 1 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach. A service will be 10 a.m. Nov. 2 at the funeral home with the Rev. James Newsome officiating. Burial with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3918 will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Fort Pierce.
