Bio

Frances Caroline Plehal, 98, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, in Sunny Hill Care Center after a lengthy illness. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Wesley Sebetka, Clyde Houston, Steve Sebetka, Dale Silhanek, Jim Kubu, Wesley Sebetka III, and Paul Pedersen. Survivors include two daughters, Gladys Sebetka and husband Wesley of Toledo and Dorothy Pedersen and husband Paul of Tomah, Wis.; five grandchildren, Wesley Sebetka Jr. and Wife Jeanette of Malcom, Judy LaRossa and husband Bob of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Linda Kubu and husband Jim of Brooklyn, Iowa, Steve Sebetka and wife Carol of Belle Plaine and Clyde Houston and wife Tandy of Tomah, Wis.; three step grandchildren, Kyle and Perre Pedersen of Grinnell and Neeva Pedersen of Denver, Colo.; 12 great grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Julia Svacina of Tama; and a sister-in-law, Lillian Zeman. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank, on Nov. 2, 1980; two grandchildren, Wayne Houston and Jennifer Sebetka; and three brothers, Louis, Joe, and George Zeman. Born May 10, 1902, in Vining, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Julia Vitek Zeman, she attended Eagles Nest rural school near Vining. She married Frank Plehal on Jan. 12, 1921, in Tama. She was a homemaker and helped Frank on the farm. They farmed for two years near Belle Plaine and then lived on their own farm west of Chelsea for 50 years. After retiring, she lived at home in Tama and then went to Sunny Hill Care Center. She loved her grandkids, flowers, raising geese, and was excellent at making kolaches.
