Francis was born to Veronica Vrla & Jan Ustenik in Moravia. They came to the United States and Jan didn't like it here and he went back to Europe. On 6/16/1894 Veronica married Frank Juricek in Waxahachie, TX at the courthouse by R.N. Haynes Justice of the Peace. The Juriceks'had 5 sons, Frank, John, Joseph, Rudolp & Charles & a daughter Annie. When Frances became of age she was courted by Ignatius Hrbacek and married him on 7/14/1908. Once married he seldom stayed home. He liked to party with his friends. A daughter Mary was born & very soon after a daughter Annie was born. Ignatius very seldom helped Francis with the farm work. When Annie was about 2 months old, Ignatius was caught in a blizzard & the horses brought him home half frozen, as he had been drinking heavily. Francis had taken the horses to the barn to feed them & put them up for the night. She didn't stay long but when she walked in the house, little Mary was hiding in fright behind the bed & the cradle was knocked over on the brick hearth, little Annie was dead. Francis took Mary & the baby to the Juriceks and her brothers helped her bury the baby. When she came home she found Ignatius very ill with pneumonia. Francis told him when he got well he would have to leave, she didn't want him there any more. Mercifully he didn't survive. An immigrant name Charlie Macalik from Podhrade, Moravia fell in love with her. They married 9/20/1910. He was 34 years old. They had 9 children and Mary made 10. The children grew up and slowly left home. That left the 3 youngest ones. They were teenagers and not much help. They were unable to buy property because they were aliens. So they rented a small farm from Nekuza's on FM 660. These people were Czech and helped them a lot. They lived in fear of being deported since Francis was very hard of hearing & Charlie couldn't speak English well. Charlie died in 1944 and Francis became a citizen on 2/25/1950. She received a small pension of $38.00 from the government and she was happy. She quietly passed away on Sept 15, 1961
