Bio

David Jackson Morehead, 79, retired carpenter of Palestine, Texas died Monday, April 24, 1961, in a Palestine nursing home following a long illness. Native of Meridian, Miss., Mr. Morehead was born Jan. 15, 1882, and had spent most of his life in Anderson and Houston counties. He was a member of the Baptist church. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 26, at 4:40 PM in the Hassell & Foster Chapel, Palestine, with Rev. Otis Felton officiating. Burial followed in the Funderburk Family cemetery, Palestine. Nephews served as pallbearers. Survivors: widow, Mrs. Annie Rogers Morehead of Palestine; two daughters, Mrs. Otis Willis of Westlake, La., and Mrs. William Jackson of Gretna, La.; two grandchildren, Dave Howard Weatherford of Spencer, Iowa, and Miss Ruth Ann Jackson of Gretna, La.; six brothers, J.H. Morehead of Palestine, Rayford Morehead of Crockett, Bruce, J.D., A.B., and Luther Morehead, all of Elkhart; a sister, Mrs. Marshall Lively of Palestine. (The Elkhart News May 4, 1961)
