Bio

Arthur W. Fasse, 98, Beatrice, died Thursday evening, Dec. 20, 2001. He was born Oct. 23, 1903, near Harbine and attended Country School 11 at Harbine. He was married to Emilie Krause on Sept. 25, 1928, at St. Paul's Evangelical Church (Cub Creek) at rural Jansen and they lived and farmed in Jefferson County until moving into Beatrice in 1950. He worked for Store Kraft for 17 years as a machine operator and then worked at the Grant Street Grocery for eight years as the produce manager, retiring in 1976. He was a past member and president of the Diller Rural School District, was a member of the Jefferson County ASCS Board of Directors and Farmers Elevator Board of Harbine. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, a past member and president of the Willing Helpers, sang in the church choir and the men's chorus, attended the Bethel and Search Series, adult Sunday School, and was a member of the Golden Age. He enjoyed reading, gardening, playing cards and working crossword puzzles. Survivors: wife, Emilie; daughters, Lucille Schmidt and husband Lawrence of Fairbury, Verneal Dodge and husband Levi of Beatrice; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Elsie Fasse of Sheboygan, Wis., Esther Vercouteren of Oostburg, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Emma (Ochs) Fasse; brothers, Fred Fasse and Elmer Fasse; sister, Meta Brockmeyer; brothers-in-law, Govert Vercouteren, Henry Brockmeyer; sisters-in-law, Pauline Fasse and Elfrieda Fasse. Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, St. John Lutheran Church, Beatrice, Pastor Doug Gunkelman and Pastor Steve Pera officiating. Burial: Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice. Family prayer service: 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, church chapel. Memorial established to St. John Lutheran Church with Ivan and Jan Stern in charge. Visitation: noon Saturday until 4 p.m. Monday at Fox Funeral Home, Beatrice, and then at the church one hour preceding the service on Wednesday. Fox Funeral Home, Beatrice.
