Bio
John D. Oehme, age 79, of Council Bluffs, passed away February 15, 2014, at Mercy Hospital. John was born December 2, 1934, near Garrison, Neb. to the late Adolph and Rose (Kucera) Oehme. He graduated from Brainard, Neb. High School in 1952 and married Mary J. Larsen on December 1, 1956, in Brainard. They were blessed with two children, Michael and Elizabeth. John served his country in the US Army from 1957-1959. He retired in 1993 after 40 years of service with the Union Pacific Railroad. John was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Manawa Volunteer Fire Department when organized in 1960. He resigned as fire chief of the department in 1969 when it dissolved upon the annexation of Manawa into the city. John was a member of various Lake Manawa Improvement groups. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Lovelace; and niece, Judy (Lovelace) Paulsen.
