Wallace E. Magnuson, 88, of Laurel, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at the Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Nebraska. He was born March 13, 1920, on the family farm near Laurel, the son of Carl J. and Jenny Rosetta Otelia (Johnson) Magnuson. Wallace attended rural school at District #39 in Cedar County. He worked on the family farm and for others in the community until serving in the U.S. Army from April 27, 1942 until November 10, 1945, with the 562nd Engineer Boat Maintenance Company in New Guinea and Southern Philippines. Wallace married Evonne Wallin on December 6, 1947 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Concord. Following his military service, Wallace was a partner in M & E Service in Concord until 1955. The couple moved to the family farm which they later purchased, retiring into Laurel in 1985. He was a lifetime member of Concordia Lutheran Church, council member, and 4-H Leader. Wallace enjoyed woodworking before his retirement, making furniture, and wood projects. He enjoyed bowling, playing pool, golfing since the age of 65, fishing, sports (especially Nebraska Football), and traveling with his wife in their motor home. Wallace loved the land, horses, and was a good livestock man. He was an honest man, proud of his family, and had a great sense of humor. Wallace is survived by: wife, Evonne; son, Dale (Beth) Magnuson; daughters, Diane (Jim) Tindall and Denise Magnuson; four grandchildren, Lucas Tindall, Nicholas Tindall; Mark Magnuson, and Ann Magnuson; brother, Melvin Magnuson; sister-in-law, Irene Magnuson; many nieces and nephews. Wallace was preceded in death by: his parents; five sisters; and two brothers. Services will Friday, April 4, 2008, at Concordia Lutheran Church Burial with mililtary rites at the Concord Cemetery.
