Melvin Johan Evert Magnuson was born January 20, 1918, on a farm near Concord to Carl J. and Otelia (Johnson) Magnuson. He attended rural school near Concord. After he left school, Melvin ran the family farm. Melvin married Joye Curry August 3, 1949, at the Presbyterian Church at Ponca. The couple lived in Concord for a few years and owned and operated the Concord Produce Store. In 1952, they moved to a farm near Carroll. In December 1984, Melvin and Joye retired and moved into Wayne. Melvin was a lifelong baseball fan, rooting for the Chicago Cubs. He also was a horse lover, keeping horses for many years. In their retirement, he and Joye took up dancing, (ballroom and square), and made many friends through their square dance club. Later Melvin became a regular at the Wayne Senior Center, and enjoyed playing pool and pinochle there. Melvin is survived by three sons and daughters-in-laws, Larry (Jan) Magnuson of Wayne, Ron (Karma) Magnuson of Carroll, and Dennis (Margie) Magnuson of Omaha; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Evonne Magnuson of Laurel; brother-in-law, Donald (Sandra) Curry of Le Mars, IA; many nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joye (January 2002); five sisters; and three brothers.
