Loranza Black Obituary: The Daily Sentinel, Nacogdoches, Texas, November 2, 1978 Mrs. Versie Havard Black Funeral for Mrs. Versie Havard Black will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Oakley-Metcalf Chapel in Lufkin with interment in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Angelina County. Officiating will be the Rev. John McNeese, pastor of Fairview Baptist Church, and the Rev. E.L. Gray, pastor of Pine Forest Baptist Church in Huntington. Mrs. Black was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. Black was born on June 24, 1914 in Angelina County and died Friday in Nacogdoches Medical Center Hospital. She was a homemaker and a clerk for The Fair department store. She was a Nacogdoches resident for 11 years. Mrs. Black is survived by her husband, the Rev. Loranza Black of Nacogdoches and three sons, Joe Vernon Black of Lufkin, John Marshall Black of Mesquite, and Ross Mitchell Black of Tatum; two daughters, Mrs. Jean Wooten of Jacksonville, and Mrs. Lorraine DuBose of Jasper also survive. Other survivors include six brothers, Albert Havard of Lufkin, Avy Joe Havard of Diboll, Eli Havard of LaMarque, Kelly Havard of Lufkin, U.B. Havard of Clute and Kirby Havard of Rusk. A sister, Mrs. Trixie Parish of Lufkin, also survives, along with several nieces and nephews, 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home of Nacogdoches is in charg of arrangements.
