Bio

Ron J. “Pretz” Vyhlidal, 73 years, of Fremont, Nebraska died Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Fremont Health Medical Center. Ron was born December 1, 1942 in North Bend, Nebraska to Emil J. and Hattie(Fencl)Vyhlidal. He was raised on a farm north of North Bend and attended Rural School District #10 until 1955, when his family moved into town and then attended North Bend Public Schools. He worked at McGinn’s Grocery Store in North Bend and learned the trade of meat cutting. While working as a meat cutter for Hinky Dinky he moved to Fremont in 1972. He began his career at Hormel’s in Fremont in 1974, retiring in 2004. Ron married Diane(Carlstedt)Von Seggern on June 5, 1992 at Sinai Lutheran Church in Fremont and to this union he gained three children, whom he loved dearly. He had an inventive mind and patented an exercise machine called “The Arm Bender.” He enjoyed his family immensely and was proud of recently becoming a grandfather. He was an avid “Husker” football fan, enjoyed boating, fishing, playing Pitch, his pets, traveling, and his latest hobby of restoring a 1959 Cushman Scooter. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont. He is survived by wife, Diane; step-sons, Paul and wife, Kylie Von Seggern of Fremont and Aaron Von Seggern and special friend, Julia Blood of Houston, Texas; step-daughter, Mary Von Seggern and special friend, Deric Nova of Seattle, Washington; brothers, Rich(Dianne)Vyhlidal of Fremont, Jerry(Susan)Vyhlidal of Columbus, Nebraska and Daryl(Cindy)Vyhlidal of Fremont; sister, Marilyn(Pat)Parolek of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Marie Vyhlidal of Lawton, Oklahoma; step-granddaughter, Maris Von Seggern; mother-in-law, Jean Carlstedt of Fremont; nephews, Terry Vyhlidal, Michael Vyhlidal, Chad Vyhlidal, Jason Vyhlidal, Jeremy Parolek, Matthew Parolek, and Derek Vyhlidal; nieces, Angie Chale, Brigitte Willis, April Hampl, Tiffany Swanson, Stephanie Beckman; twenty great nieces and great nephews; aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by parents; stepmother, Beatrice Vyhlidal; father-in-law, Paul Carlstedt; brother, Emil Vyhlidal; sister, Carol Vyhlidal; and nephew, Troy Vyhlidal. Memorial Mass 10:30 AM, Friday, April 29, 2016 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont. Father Ron Battiato will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday from 9 AM to 10 AM with a Rosary at 10 AM all at church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials directed to family for further designation.
