Thanks to contributor #48796369 William "Bill" Robert Brownell, 55, died Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, at his home in Los Angeles. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burwell. The Rev. Jim Heithoff will officiate. Burial will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Brownell was born July 31, 1948, at Burwell, to Robert and Cecelia (Rourke) Brownell. Survivors include his mother of Burwell; a son, Seth Brownell of Naperville, Ill.; two sisters, Nancy Curtis and Peggy Schmitz; and two brothers, Dennis and Larry Brownell. The Grand Island Independent, Sept. 23, 2003 ∼ William R. Brownell lost his battle with AIDS and passed on to eternal life on August 11, with his close friends at his bedside. A native of Burwell, NE, he was born on July 31, 1948. He attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, NE. Arriving in West Hollywood, CA in October 1987 from Aurora/Chicago, IL, he was successful in many business ventures, including publications Chicago's Rage Magazine, and Alex Magazine, Max4Men.com, and the Brownell Chronicle (a family genealogy newsletter). He was employed by Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, and the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Chicago as a successful fundraiser. Bill wore many different hats during his lifetime. He was an incredible father, brother, son life of the party, and friend to many with a passion for love and life. He was preceded in death by his partner Marc O'Brian, his father Robert Brownell. Survivors include his friend of 25 years Gregg J. Houck III of Dallas, TX and Edward Sciarretti of West Hollywood, CA, his son Seth Brownell of Naperville, IL, his mother, Cecilia Brownell of Burwell, NE, sisters, Nancy Curtis, Peggy Schmitz, brothers, Dennis and Larry Brownell, and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives. Bill's final request that all donations in his name be made to AIDS Project of Los Angeles.
