(bio by Jen Snoots ) Capt. Groves was wounded in the face at the Battle of Monocacy in Maryland, July 9, 1864, losing his left eye as a result. He was captured and died soon after. Roll for March and April, 1863, Absent without leave. Rolls from May, 1863, to Aug., 1864, Present. On Hospl. Register, Admitted to U. S. A. Gen. Hospl., Frederick, Md., July 10, 1864. Died July 18, 1864. Roll to Aug. 31, 1864, Died of wounds recd. at Battle of Monocacy, Md., July 9, 1864. Born Louisiana, occupation farmer, Res. Fracture of temporal and orbital bones, with loss of left eye. Frederick hospital. Died July 18th, 1864." -- The Medical and Surgical History of the War of the Rebellion. Part I, Volume II: Surgical History by U. S. Army Surgeon General's Office, 1870. ∼ Son of James Groves and Nancy Ann Perkins. He was in the 1st Louisiana infantry and died in the battle of monocacy. He was shot in the left eye and died over a week later. His name is mispelled and his death date is a year off.
