Bio

George Washington Davis was born March 29, 1857, near Mound City, Missouri, and died at his home at Burwell, Nebraska, July 14, 1925, aged sixty-eight years, three months, and fifteen days. His death came after an illness of seven months. He moved with his parents to Richardson county, Nebraska, on New Years day 1861, when he was five years of age and has been a resident of Nebraska since that time. On March 1, 1904, he moved to Garfield county on his homestead where he lived until the time of his death. On February 27, 1878 [Marriage Record states 1879], Mr. Davis was united in marriage to Mary Delia (sic) Goolsby near Shubert, Nebraska. To this union 13 children were born, 12 of whom are living. The children are: Mrs. Della Peckham of Hot Springs, South Dakota, W. E. Davis, Wagner, South Dakota, F. E. Davis, of Walthill, Nebraska, Mrs. Sarah Cook, of Canton, Illinois, George and Henry Davis of Burwell, Nebraska, Guy Davis of Hot Springs, South Dakota, Mrs. Mary Freeman, Mrs. Maude Scofield, Mrs. Carrie Howell, Dewey and Alvin all of Burwell, Nebraska. Besides the widow and the children; he leaves two sisters, Mrs. Ellalda Goolsby of Verdon, Nebraska and Mrs. Belle Pollard, of Kaycee, Wyoming. He also leaves thirty-one grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In the passing of Mr. Davis, Garfield county has lost one of its good, Pioneer citizens. He was a good husband, a kind father who tried to make his home a place of happiness for the children, and he leaves many friends who with his loved ones, will miss him. Funeral services were conducted from the Congregational Church Friday afternoon by Rev. F. E. Wells of the Methodist church and Rev. Mr. Conrad of the Congregational church. The twelve children were all present at the funeral. Interment was made in the Burwell Cemetery.
