A Celebration of Life for Otto Eugene “Gene” Stansberry, 85, of Kilgore will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Highland Park Baptist Church in Kilgore with Rev. Riley Pippen and Rev. Brandon Cochran officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Cemetery. Gene went home to be with the Lord early Sunday morning April 10, 2016, from his home where he was surrounded by his family. Gene was born on July 21, 1930 in Whitney, TX to Jesse and Lavada Stansberry. He married the love of his life, Nora in 1952 and they spent the next 57 years raising their four children and making many loving and happy memories. They moved to Kilgore in 1972 before retiring from the Atlantic Richfield Co. After retirement they enjoyed camping with friends and the Dogwood Sam’s Travel Club. He was a longtime member of the Highland Park Baptist Church and had served as a Deacon there since 1972. He was lovingly known as “Bro. Gene” and enjoyed ministering to his church family and others as he never met a stranger. He was so full of life and joy that his favorite saying was, “If you can’t have fun, you might as well stay at home!” He was the best Dad, Papaw and Bro. Gene that anyone could have asked for. He left a Godly legacy and heritage of love for his family and will be greatly missed by all whose lives he has touched. Left to cherish his memory are his three daughters, a daughter-in-love, five grandsons, two granddaughters, nine great grandchildren, his fur baby/”babygirl” Scooby. Also left to cherish him are his sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, many friends and other loving family members. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, son David Stansberry, brothers William, Odell and Lawrence Stansberry. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Accolade Home Health & Hospice for the excellent and loving care that they provided during the final days of Gene’s earthly journey. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made in Gene’s name to Helping Hands of Kilgore or to Accolade Hospice or the charity of your choice. (from Rader Funeral Home website)
