Bio

ROGERS Dr. William Gerald, born January 10, 1907, Fulton, Mo., died March 21, 1995, Crescent, Ok. Beloved physician, mentor, husband, father, grandfather. An Oklahoman since 1908; a graduate of the Ok. School of Medicine, 1930. Dr. Rogers returned to OKC in 1935 following a residency and fellowship with Drs. DeLee and Adair at Chicago Lying-in Hospital. Dr. Rogers was among the first Diplomates of the American Board of OB-GYN in OKC, a Fellow of the American College of OB-GYN, the American College of Surgeons and the International College of Surgeons. He was active in the OKC Zoological Society and many civic organizations. He served his country as Lt. Commander, USNR, in the Pacific during World War II. He taught at the Ok. College of Medicine for forty years, serving as Clinical Professor and Vice-Chairman of OB-GYN, and finally, Professor Emeritus. He was Chief of OB-GYN at St. Anthony Hospital, 1949-1964 and Chief of Staff 1970-1976. He served as role model and mentor to interns and residents throughout his 48 years of practice. Dr. Rogers shared the AMA Research Medal, discovering ergotrate in 1935. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was an avid photographer, fisherman and world traveler. Eleven thousand OKC babies and many thousands of women guided to maturity may be grateful to him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth and grandson, Philip. He is survived by a son, Dr. David Gerald Rogers; a daughter, Ruth Elaine Coote; five grandchildren, Dr. Kevin Rogers, Rev. Amy Regan-Rogers, Diana Coote Cavanaugh, Melissa Coote, Rebecca Coote; five great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Eleanor Edgin; and two nephews and one niece. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, OKC, Monday, March 27 at 12:00. The family will remain after the service to visit with friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Anthony Hospital or the OKC Zoological Society.
