She was born June 26, 1924, to Floyd and Viola Long Hopkins at Burwell. She moved with her family to Custer County when she was 8 years old and lived there until moving to Lake McConaughy in 1975. She attended school graduating from Arnold High School in 1941, then attended Grand Island Business College, graduating in 1942. On Aug. 10, 1942, she married Everett Zierlein. She served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. She later owned and operated the Goldenrod Real Estate Agency at Lake McConaughy. Mrs. Zierlein was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lewellen, the Nebraska Realtors Association, Lake McConaughy Committee, Ogallala Chamber of Commerce, Highway 26 Committee and many more committees in Ogallala and Lewellen. Survivors include two daughters, Sandra (Wayne) Anderson of Brunswick, Maine, and Barbara (Dahl) Jungren of Broken Bow; two sons, Stanley (Sharon) of Pinedale, Wyo., and Richard of Almogordo, N.M.; nine grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; her mother, Viola Konings of Broken Bow; a sister, ViEva Foran of Arnold; a brother, Phillip Konings of Casper, Wyo.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts. She was preceded in death by her father and her stepfather, John Konings. The body was cremated. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. MST Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Lewellen. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge.
